VOLUNTEERS SINCE 1928

about us

The Roanoke EMS crew is

the only volunteer crew in the city of Roanoke. We work in conjunction with the Roanoke City Fire/EMS Department to provide the highest pre-hospital emergency care to the citizens of Roanoke City.  REMS operates from our station located at the corner of 4th Street and Day Avenue in old southwest.

Currently, we have more than 30 full-time and associate members. Volunteers staff the station from 7 pm to 7 am weekday, and all weekend. Volunteers are divided into shifts, which helps meet both the needs of the crew and the member's availability.

Our volunteers answer over 1,000 9-1-1 calls each year, responding with both Advance Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) staffed ambulances. In addition, volunteers provide medical stand-by coverage at most city festivals, concerts, sporting events. We also participate in health fairs, mock disaster training events and demonstrations for local schools.

Our main "run" territory covers areas of Raleigh Court, Historic Old Southwest, Wasena, South Roanoke and Downtown...but you will see us everywhere.

REMS is funded by a combination of  public donations as well as financial support from the City of Roanoke.

Come be a part of history with us and have the reward of a lifetime - providing emergency medical care and transport to those who are sick or injured.
